BATTLE RULES | TO MAKE OUR SITE FUNCTION 01. HEALTH POINTS Our site does not track health points, instead we play by common sense. If you have a level 5 pidgey vs a level 10 pikachu, your pidgey will most likely be fainted. Please try to be honest and play fairly, if this becomes a problem the staff will change our battle system to a lot of numbers and no one likes that.
02. LEVEL DIFFERENCES As we have levels, there will be obviously level differences. As mentioned in the pokemon thread, all wild pokemon will be within three levels of your highest pokemon. Please make sure to use common sense when you battle, a pokemon of a higher level is generally going to do a little bit more damage then one of a lower level.
03. POKEMON STATS Members are required to post their stats at the beginning of each and every battle. These stats are given when you first gain the pokemon. You do not have to put the entire list of stats but we ask that you at least put the sprite, and the battle statistics section. Below is the full stat code for staff, and for members that find use for it:
[sprite] Pokemon Name
Name: (none) Gender: Male/Female Personality: personality description Friendship: #/100
Battle Statistics Type: [type1] [type2] Level: - Held Item: (none) EXP: #/# Ability: Ability Info Attacks: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6
04. WILD POKEMON If you wish to have wild pokemon in your thread we ask that you put [MOD] in your thread title. We also suggest to post in the "please reply" thread located in the staff board for a staff to pick it up faster. All wild pokemon will be within three levels of your highest pokemon.
05. BATTLE STYLE On our site pokemon are allowed to move twice in one turn, however these two moves must have one offensive and one defensive. In the sense you may use harden then tackle in the same move. If you use a healing move you may only use one move that turn, this also goes for moves that switch out pokemon such as whirlwind, baton pass, ect.
06. MOVES Pokemon are allowed to have eight moves on this site a piece. Meaning you can have up to six naturally learned moves, and two tm and hm slots. You may purchase tms or earn them other ways during rp. The only other way your pokemon can learn moves is through leveling.

EXPERIENCE | Experience Points () will be your most common reward here as a Trainer on BtS. Every pokémon you catch will need them to level up and learn new moves, so collecting them will be important and, luckily for you guys, pretty easy. Whenever you're finished with a battle, win or lose, you gain some experience for your pokémon: the bigger and more important the battle, the more experience there is to be gained. See below: I battled... | ...and Won! | ...and lost. | a Wild Pokémon. | | n/a | a Trainer, like me. | | | a Gym Leader. | | | one of the Elite Four! | | |
Now, the figures above are for each pokémon you battle against, so a Trainer with three pokémon, for example, will net you 6 ExP for a victory, or 1 ExP for each pokémon who participated in the battle if you lose (so, if that trainer's first pokémon beats you all by itself, you'll get 1 Exp for the loss.) Dividing Experience - In battles with multiple pokémon on both sides, splitting up the ExP rewards can be a little tricky, so it's important to remember who fights whom if there's a lot of switching out. Summarily speaking, the reward you get for each of your opponent's pokémon should be split between the pokémon that you used to fight it. How you make that split is up to you, but each pokémon that participates should get at least 1 ExP, provided there is enough to go around. Pokémon are eligible to receive ExP even if they fainted during the battle, but not if they never participated.
- To clarify, I use the word "Participated" a lot in this document. A pokémon has participated in battle if it uses a move that targets an opponent pokémon or takes an action that alters the balance of a battle. If you are unsure whether a pokémon's actions constitute participation in a battle, drop me or one of the other staff a PM and we can make the call.
You'll be leveling up a lot in your first few battles here on BtS. The table below can show you how many Experience Points you'll need to reach the next level, based on your current level. When you level up, reset your ExP to 0, then apply the rest of any experience rewards you have toward reaching the next level goal. My Pokémon's Level is... | ...so I need | | | 1 - 9 | | 50 - 59 | x6 | 10 - 19 | x2 | 60 - 69 | x7 | 20 - 29 | x3 | 70 - 79 | x8 | 30 - 39 | x4 | 80 - 89 | x9 | 40 - 49 | x5 | 90 - 99 | x10 |
At a certain point in your travels, you will come to a point where your pokemon are higher than the pokemon you are fighting. We have tried to eliminate this entirely by making all wild pokemon in your thread within 3 levels of your highest pokemon, but that doesn't always work. If there does come to a point where you are fighting pokemon five or more levels lower than your own pokemon you will receive no experience from that battle. For the cases with trainer battles and gyms you will receive a considerably less amount, but since its a battle we will make sure to give you something for your efforts. If you have any questions about gaining experience please send any of the staff a message about how much you should or shouldn't receive.
With the following information, you should be able to understand how our battle system works. While we don't try to make it hard, we limited the math to just gaining experience and provided a chart for those who need it. Most of our battling rules and experience still come down to that common sense factor, and we ask that our members respect that. Also in that state we also ask that if anyone should have any question about dividing points up, battling, or anything else in this thread to please contact any staffer at any time and we will assist you. -special thanks to swablu for most of the content of our experience system |
